Prognostic value of presepsin (soluble cd14 subtype) in critically ill patients with severe sepsis and septic shock
Abstract: Introduction: Biomarkers, which were introduced in diagnosis and risk assessment of sepsis, could contribute in predicting outcome in those patients affected by sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock who could benefit from a quick and appropriate therapy. Among different molecules that have been suggested as sepsis biomarkers in the last years is presepsin which appears quite promising due to its reported correlation with the septic process. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the prognostic value of presepsin with that of APACHE II score and C-reactive protein (CRP) in critically ill patients with severe sepsis and septic shock.
